    VOTER REGISTRATION – JUNE 2, 2020 PAWLING ELEMENTARY SCHOOL GYM 3:00PM TO 7:00 PM

    A qualified voter is one who is (1) a citizen of the United States of America, (2) eighteen (18) years of age or older, (3) resident within the School District for a period of thirty (30) days preceding the annual vote and election and (4) not otherwise disqualified under the Election Law. If a resident of the School District meets the definition of a “qualified voter” but has not registered to vote, (s)he must register to be eligible to receive a ballot.  A qualified voter may register with the county or at the District’s registration day. 

    To register you must: • be a US citizen; • be 18 years old (you may pre-register at 16 or 17 but cannot vote until you are 18); • not be in prison or on parole for a felony conviction (unless parole pardoned or restored rights of citizenship); • not claim the right to vote elsewhere; • not found to be incompetent by a court.

    Documents required:

    Proof of citizen of the USA -   Birth Certificate or USA Passport

    Proof of age – Birth Certificate, USA Passport, or valid driver’s license

    Proof of resident – Utility Bill

    Completed ballots must be mailed and received by the District Clerk no later than 5:00 p.m on Tuesday, June 9, 2020.

    Dear Parents/Guardians of Pawling High School Students,

    I hope this email finds you and your families healthy and well.

    3rd quarter report cards will be available for viewing on April 20, 2020 by 3:00 PM.  Our 4th quarter officially begins the week of April 13, 2020.

    Starting 4th quarter, assignments will be posted by each department once a week rather than every day (we heard you all loud and clear!).  Please stress to your students the importance of completing assignments to the best of their ability.  Although 4th quarter grades will be P/F,  these assignments can influence final averages for the year.  

    Attached is the HS schedule by department.

    I want to thank each and every one of you for your patience and understanding during our instructional transition to virtual learning.  I hope and pray that we may all be together again in our high school soon.

  • Final Steps Before the AP Exam

    Dear Colleague,

    AP® Exams begin on Monday, May 11. We've outlined steps you should take to ensure your students are prepared to test.

    Now

    Share the 2020 AP Testing Guide (.pdf/10.37 MB) and watch the overview video. The comprehensive guide will help you walk your students through exam preparation, and the video gives a high-level overview of this year's exams.

    Encourage your students to practice with the exam demoYou and your students now have access to an exam demo. Students should use the demo to practice the different ways to submit exam responses. World language students will be able to practice with the AP World Languages Exam App beginning the week of May 11.

    Share the required and recommended resource list with your students. Make sure your students know what resources they can use during their exams and how they can access them.

    Two Days Before Each Exam

    Confirm that registered students have located their e-ticket. Two days before each exam, students will receive an email with their unique exam e-ticket that includes their AP ID. On exam day, students will use their e-ticket to access the exam. If a student hasn't received their exam e-ticket by email, they can access it through their student account on My AP. E-tickets are nontransferable and shouldn't be shared with anyone. Students who haven't been receiving College Board emails still have time to confirm their contact information.

    Remind your students to complete the AP Exam Day Checklist (.pdf/513.39 KB) for each exam they're taking. Students should complete this checklist and keep a printed or handwritten copy with them for reference during testing. Completing the checklist will help students feel confident they're set up for success.

    On Exam Day

    Remind students to click their e-ticket to check in 30 minutes before exam start time. Students should allot 80 minutes for each exam—30 minutes to enter their AP ID, name, and other information, and 50 minutes to draft and submit their responses. Make sure your students know their local testing time, since each subject's exam will be taken simultaneously worldwide.

    Ensure your students know what to do if something goes wrong. If a student accidentally closes the browser, their device crashes, or they temporarily lose internet access, they can quickly click their exam e-ticket again to return to the exam. They should continue the exam, and if they feel at the end of the exam that the temporary disruption negatively impacted their performance, they can request approval to take the makeup exam at cb.org/requestmakeup. Students can also request a makeup exam if they've lost too much time due to a technical problem, can't connect to their exam, or experienced some other serious disruption.

    This week, Online AP Classes and Review Sessions will focus on the exam day experience and review new sample questions for all nonportfolio courses. These sample questions are available on each subject's course page.

    At-Home AP Testing: College Board UPDATE April 3rd, 2020

    On Thursday April 2, 2020, from 7-8 pm, Trevor Packer, the senior vice president of AP and Instruction at the College Board, held a webinar for all AP teachers and administrators that included clarification and information about the at-home testing of AP examinations scheduled for May 11-22, 2020.  Mr. Packer announced the specifics of each exam, types of questions and testing procedures/expectations, most of which is posted on the College Board’s AP website as of Friday, April 3, 2020.  Students can expect more information on specifics of the home testing conditions in a College Board-released testing guide in late April.  Right now, we know the following information:

    1. Testing Dates (click on the link)
      1. By the time of your scheduled exam your teachers here at Pawling are confident that you will have everything, you need to be successful to take these new exams, even in the new format.  Our AP faculty, counselors, and administrators strongly encourage you to sit for the exams and earn the credit you have been diligently working toward since the beginning of the year, and for several classes this began last summer.  However, the College Board is sensitive to the impact of these new and unforeseen circumstances and the variable stresses of individual families. As a result, for this year’s exams, students may choose to take, or not take, the exam.  A full refund will be given if they choose not to sit for the exam in May.   If you decide to forgo the exam, you will need to contact your school counselor and/or College Board for specifics on your monetary refund. 
      2. Testing on the make-up date requires school approval. College Board strongly recommends testing on the exam date and reserving the makeup date for extenuating or unforeseen technological circumstances. 
    2. Format and Timing of each test:
      • Most exams will have 1-2 free-responses questions (FRQs).  Each question will be timed separately (see below for information on extended time).  
      • Students may take the exams on any computer, tablet, or smartphone.  They may choose to type responses or write their responses by hand (and take a photo to upload).  
      • The College Board is allowing these tests to be “open book/open note”.  However, they have STRICT policies and procedures in place to maintain test integrity and to catch cheating.  The College Board will report to ALL COLLEGES, any student caught cheating on an AP exam.  Click here for more information about exam security. 
      • Most exams will be 45 minutes with an additional 5 minute uploading period  Students will access the online testing system 30 minutes prior to the exam start time (see above) to get set up.  
    3. There will be simulations released by the College Board to practice this new testing environment.
    4. Students who have College Board-approved accommodations will automatically receive these in the new digital format.  For instance, if a student has been approved for double-time and the exam is one essay in 45 minutes your timer will automatically be adjusted to 90 minutes. You MUST have your accommodations approved.  Questions about IEP/504 needs should be directed to your case manager and/or your school counselor. 
    5. Over the next five weeks, teachers will continue to provide learning experiences via Google classroom, AP classroom, and other platforms that prepare students for the newly-formatted exams.  

    The following information is for specific exams with special circumstances.  All AP students can expect separate course-specific communications via their individual Google Classrooms.

    AP SEMINAR STUDENTS: As you have already been informed, testing info doesn’t apply to AP Seminar students because your end of course test has been cancelled.  You can expect that your AP grade will just be based on two essays students submit to the College Board.  All deadlines for these portfolio submissions have been extended to May 26, 2020, by 11:59 p.m. ET. 

    AP COMPUTER SCIENCE PRINCIPLES STUDENTS: The multiple-choice test has been canceled for you as well.  Your AP score will be calculated based on your digital portfolio which includes both the Explore Performance Task and the Create Performance Task. All deadlines for these portfolio submissions have been extended to May 26, 2020, at 11:59 p.m. ET.

    AP SPANISH:  Students complete two spoken tasks consistent with free-response questions 3 and 4 on the current AP Exam. Written responses will not be required. The College Board will provide additional details in the coming weeks to help students prepare.

    Dear Parents/Guardians:

    In efforts to reduce community exposure, beginning April 6, 2020, the Pawing Central School District will begin distributing breakfast and lunch on Mondays and Wednesdays ONLY.  On Monday we will distribute 2 days of meals, and on Wednesday we will distribute 3 days of meals.  

    Below you will find a schedule of our centralized locations and times for meal distribution.  Any PCSD student or sibling 18 years old and younger, living in a household with a Pawling CSD student, is eligible to receive free meals.  

    In order to best prepare for your arrival, and to minimize waste during this critical time, we ask that you call 845-855-4605 and leave a detailed message or complete the form here  (also available en español) on the Food Services page with your location choice and number of meals.  Please place your orders before 3:00 pm the previous day for service on the next day available.  Please only place your order once, we will have meals prepared for you on each pickup day going forward.  In addition to the meal requests, please notify us ahead of time of any medically documented dietary needs.  If you need to cancel your order, please call 845-855-4605, and leave a message for how many meals you are canceling, at which pick up site they were scheduled to be picked up, and a way to contact you in case we require clarification.  Please cancel orders by 3:00 pm the previous day of scheduled service.

    Pawling CSD uses the SchoolMessenger callout service to contact you about emergencies, school closings, and early dismissals, as well as to remind you about school activities and important dates. As we look to reduce the paper we send home, we will be increasingly using SchoolMessenger to email forms and pertinent school and district information.

    SchoolMessenger has recently upgraded their system and it will now be even easier for parents and guardians to set their notification preferences and to add additional contact information to the system. 

    How do I sign up for the SchoolMessenger App?

    You must have a valid email address and it must be listed in SchoolTool. If you have a SchoolTool (Parent) Portal account, you will use your Parent Portal email address. 

    Go to https://go.schoolmessenger.com and click the SIGN UP Button on the top of the page, or Download the SchoolMessenger App from the Apple App Store or Google Play Market.

    Enter your email address and create a password. An email will be sent to that address with a secure token.

    Note: If you receive an “already claimed by another user account” error message that means you’ve already created a SchoolMessenger account via another SchoolMessenger product, such as Contact Manager. Simply follow the “Return to login” link and login. Use the “Forgot your password” link if needed.

    1. After authenticating via your email, return to SchoolMessenger and sign in using your email and password.
    2. Once you've created your account, we'll automatically link the records associated with your email address.
    3. If you do not see all of your contacts click “Is someone still missing”.

    1. On the next screen enter a phone number that your district has on file and select a verification method.

    When you first sign in to the SchoolMessenger App you will receive the following prompt for any phones you have in the system.

    You can then:

    • View the records associated with your account - student, staff, and/or parent records.
    • Review the last 30 days+’ worth of messages for all your associated records.
    • View your contact information

    To configure how you would like to receive notifications click the Preferences link in the dropdown menu at the upper right of your screen (if you do not see the Preferences link please log out and log back in again).

    Is SchoolMessenger secure?

    The sign-up process creates a secure link between the user and SchoolMessenger. SchoolMessenger operates with the latest encryption technology to protect access to stored information. SchoolMessenger is also a signatory of the Student Privacy Pledge, which requires us to adhere to 12 stringent data protection standards as a further assurance of our commitment to protecting your data.

    What else do I need to know?

    Device (Push) Notifications will trigger a badge or alert when you receive new communications from your school or district. You can choose to receive Device Notifications in addition to, or instead of, the phone calls, emails, and text messages you normally receive.

     

    IMPORTANT – SMS text messages!

    To receive text message you must check the Send Text button for each cell phone in the App. If you receive a message similar to the following:

    “Please OPTIN to receive TXT alerts from PawlingCSD Rply OPTIN 2 register, STOP 2 OPTOUT www.schoolmessenger.com/txt Msg&Data Rates May Apply”
    You must reply with “OPTIN” or “yes” to receive text messages from the district.
