I would like to welcome you to the Pawling Middle School.  Your child will have many wonderful experiences as they progress from grade five through  grade eight.

This year we will be continuing our Score 4 initiative. However, we are expanding it to include all of the New York State Assessments.  We ask that students expect to Score 4 and that they do their very best as they strive to meet that goal.  Please feel free to discuss with your child's teacher or guidance counselor, what you can do to assist them in this effort.

Another major initiative underway this year was developed with the help of our Literacy Team.  The Tiger Tactics for Conventions, is being introduced to all students in all subjects offered at the Middle School.  Our expectations are as follows:

Tiger Tactics for Conventions

** The first person who reads your work is YOU.**

1.    Familiar words and content-area vocabulary will be spelled correctly.  Words in questions and text will also be transferred (copied) correctly.

2.    Capitalization will be used correctly.

3.    End punctuation will be used correctly.

4.    All sentences will be complete.

5.    Each main idea will be written in a new, indented paragraph.

The above CONVENTIONS will be applied by ALL          students to ALL written work.

You can help us by reinforcing these conventions as you review their homework each night. Please have them correct any errors you might find, before they turn it in to their teacher.

I would also like to remind you that we are still requiring each of our students to continue the use of the STAR Journal.  We have provided them with a journal that they are free to decorate as they choose.  They will need to carry this with them to all of their classes, as they never know when they will be called upon to create an entry for a particular class.

It is my sincere hope that together we can make a positive difference in your child's life.  If you ever have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me at the school or email me at lipskya@pawlingschools.org

Have a great year!
